About us!

Hello and welcome! We are Student Registered Nurse Anesthetists (SRNAs) from the state of Pennsylvania, and we are honored to share our Doctor of Nurse Practice (DNP) project with you. Our project is centered on an important question: "For nurse anesthetists, does participating in an educational session on the stigma reduction strategies related to substance use disorder (SUD), versus no educational session, lead to a measurable decrease in perceived stigma surrounding SUD?"

As future Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs), we are deeply invested in fostering a culture of compassion, understanding, and support within our profession. Substance use disorder is a complex, chronic condition that affects patients and healthcare providers. Unfortunately, stigma continues to serve as a powerful barrier, preventing individuals from seeking help, which contributes to feelings of isolation, and even affecting the quality of care.

Through this project, we aim to increase awareness by providing evidence-based education on SUD and practical strategies for reducing stigma. Our hope is that by opening the conversation and challenging misconceptions, we can help shift the culture from one of judgment and silence, to one of empathy and advocacy. By addressing stigma directly, we can improve outcomes not only for patients, but also for our colleagues, who may one day face their own struggles with SUD.

Thank you for taking the time to be here and engage with this important topic. Your willingness to learn, reflect, and join this conversation makes a difference. Together, we can break down barriers, create a more supportive professional environment, and ultimately provide safer, more compassionate care.
